F.A.Q.

Great question! A bottomless portafilter gives you a completely unobstructed view of the espresso extraction as it happens. You will immediately see channeling, uneven flow, or spraying, all signs that your grind size, distribution, or tamp needs adjusting. It is the fastest way to improve your puck prep. Beyond diagnostics, many baristas prefer the richer crema and slightly higher volume you get without restrictive spouts.

We offer four variants to keep things simple. Select 54mm (approx. 2.13 in) if you own a Breville or Sage machine like the Barista Express, Barista Pro, or Bambino. Choose 58mm E61 (approx. 2.28 in) for Rocket, ECM, Lelit, Profitec, Flair 58, and similar Italian groupheads. Pick the 58mm La Marzocco variant for any La Marzocco machine. And select 51mm (approx. 2 in) for Delonghi La Specialista models.

Absolutely. The portafilter head is machined from SUS 304 stainless steel, which is the same food-grade alloy used in professional commercial equipment. It resists corrosion, handles high brewing temperatures with ease, and will not impart any metallic taste to your espresso. Paired with the solid walnut wood handle, this tool is built for years of daily pulling without loosening, cracking, or degrading.

You can absolutely use it as your everyday portafilter! Many home baristas make the switch permanently after seeing how much better their shots become. The bottomless design actually produces a slightly thicker crema because espresso flows directly into the cup without bouncing through spouts. Just be aware that messy extractions will spray, so it naturally encourages you to keep your puck prep dialed in every single time.

After each session, simply rinse the stainless steel head under warm water and wipe it dry. Avoid the dishwasher, as the heat and detergent can damage the natural walnut handle over time. Every few weeks, apply a thin coat of food-safe mineral oil or walnut oil to the handle to keep the grain looking rich and to prevent drying. This quick routine will keep your portafilter performing and looking beautiful for years.
