F.A.Q.
Great question. A bottomless portafilter removes the spout so you can see the entire underside of your extraction in real time. You will immediately spot channeling, uneven flow, or dead spots that a regular spouted portafilter hides completely. This visual feedback lets you fine-tune your grind size, distribution, and tamp pressure until you achieve a clean, centered pour every time.
This portafilter is built with a 54mm three-ear locking mechanism that fits all Breville and Sage machines using a 54mm group head. That includes the Barista Express, Barista Pro, Barista Touch, Bambino, Bambino Plus, Infuser, Duo Temp Pro, and the 800 series models like the BES870, BES875, BES878, and BES880. No adapters or modifications are needed. It locks right in.
Absolutely. The basket head is made from 304 stainless steel, which is the same grade used in professional espresso equipment. It resists corrosion, handles high brewing temperatures without warping, and cleans up easily after every shot. This is a tool built for daily use, not just occasional brewing. You can expect it to hold up beautifully for years of consistent pulling.
You can absolutely use it as your everyday portafilter. Many home baristas switch to a bottomless design permanently because they enjoy watching the extraction and it produces slightly higher shot volume since there is no spout restriction. Just keep in mind that early on, you may see some messy sprays until your puck prep improves, so a drip tray or towel underneath helps.
The modular M10 design lets you fully detach the wood handle from the basket head for cleaning. Rinse the stainless steel components with warm water after each session and dry them thoroughly. For the wood handle, simply wipe it down with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid soaking it in water or running it through a dishwasher, as prolonged moisture can damage natural wood over time.
